What really happens in a private somatic session?
Lately, with all of the talk around somatic therapy, nervous system regulation, and the like, I have been getting a bunch of questions around what a private session with me is like. So to offer a more clear picture of how this work can look, I have provided a written example below. I hope this is helpful for those who are curious about their own healing journey.
A Private Session Example
Step 1 - Setting up your Initial Consultation
An Initial Consultation is extremely helpful in order for me us to meet and align your wellness, health and healing intentions with what I provide. This step is required for any further private session bookings. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about how somatic therapy might be beneficial for you, what to expect in our sessions, payment, and to briefly elaborate on any additional information you think might be helpful for me to know before we begin our sessions together. You will be prompted to fill out a brief questionnaire upon scheduling your Initial Consultation.
Initial Consultations are conducted on zoom, last 30 minutes, and cost $25 USD paid at the time of booking. If you are unable to make payment at the time of booking due to internet restrictions, please email me at healingmotionkw@gmail.com for us to find an alternative payment method.

Step 2 - Booking your Session
Once you have decided to book a session with me after your Initial Consultation you can do so either in my online calendar under Client Sessions, or we can find a time at the end of our Initial Consultation together.
Step 3 - The Journey Begins
Our first few sessions will be about us getting to know each other as well as getting to know your nervous system together. Usually, in the first session we will practice a series of nervous system resourcing methods to understand how your system responds to external and internal information. We will take time in reminding your body what it feels like to be calm and how to return to that state of being after discomfort. Finding resources is a very personalized process and it might be a try and try again method. From the information gained it this session I will offer you homework and practices to take into your everyday life.
In our second session we will reflect on how these practices either supported you or did not support you in times of challenge. Once resources are established and nurtured in our sessions and during your day to day life, we will be able to dive deeper into trauma resolution and maintaining nervous system balance.
A basic blueprint of this process might look like:
Resourcing (finding Calm and creating a Route to it in your Nervous System)
Practice (homework and discovery of more tools for your Nervous System Toolkit)
Trauma Resolution Work (focusing on specific events, symptoms, or patterns that you are looking to resolve or shift)
Maintaining Balance (upkeep of a flexible and balanced nervous system no matter what life brings in the future)
The number of sessions it will take to find calm, resolution, and balance depends on many factors. There is no way to tell how many sessions you will need with me to provide these outcomes. Also, we can focus on events and needs as they arise in the process.
Because our experience in life is layered, so is this work together. Working with you is individualized and personal to your nervous system, experiences and intentions.
