Embodiment through Yoga

Embodiment through Yoga ~ 6 Class Series with Kirsten Wilkinson

Are you new to yoga?  Do you have a personal practice, but are having trouble feeling present?  Do you want to feel more empowered and resilient?  Are you ready to experience the benefits of yoga, choice making, and embodiment?

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then it is time to take this opportunity and join in this course.

Embodiment is a buzz word lately in the wellness community, but do we really know what it feels like to be “embodied”?  Could we say that being embodied is the opposite of being disembodied?  To be embodied in your own being can require the pealing back of many layers of sensations.  This can seem like a daunting task.  However, through intentional movement, choice making, nervous system regulation practices, breath work, and strength building the layers of sensations in our own bodies might begin to become more familiar to us.  This familiarity can open the doors to a more present and fulfilled life.

TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga) is an empirically validated, clinical intervention. This series includes invitational language and teaching methods based on TCTSY, of which Kirsten is a Certified Facilitator.  This method of teaching has shown a greater support of nervous system regulation, mind/body integration, and empowerment building skills. The TCTSY methodology is based on central components of the Hatha style of yoga. Elements of standard Hatha yoga are modified to maximize experiences of empowerment and to cultivate a more positive relationship to one's body.

In this 6 week course you will be offered menus of sensation through gentle movement explorations, become more familiar with your own nervous system, cultivate a connection to your breath and understand how it can be a powerful healing tool, discover your own inner resources, and enhance your mind/body connection for overall wellbeing.

Each class will include invitational language, self awareness practices, breath work, gentle chair and standing yoga postures, and guided mindfulness.
